Obituary.
PICKARD. - Died Oct. 20th, 1879, Mrs. Affa Pickard, aged 81 years, 9 months and 20 days.
Affa Skeel was born Jan. 1st, 1798, in Warrenberg, Rensalier county, New York. She was the eldest daughter of a family of twelve children, eight of whom are yet living, four brothers and four sisters. She was converted when seventeen years of age, and united with the M. E. Church, in which she remained during the remainder of her natural life. She was married November 21st, 1816, to S. W. Pickard, and came to Waddams, stephenson county, Ill., in 1838, bring with her a family of seven children, and leaving two in New York. She raised a family of eleven children, ten of whom are yet living, seven sons and three daughters. She had fifty-one grand-children, of which thirty-five are yet living, and seventeen great-grand-children, all living. She died Oct. 20th, 1879, retaining her christian faith and a rational mind until her expiring moments. A few minutes before passing away she said, "Almost gone; all is well' I am going' good-bye!"
Her funeral took place on Sabbath morning last, from the M. E. Church. The church was crowded to is utmost capacity with friends and citizens who had gathered to witness the last sad rites over her who had mingled with them in the many years gone. Rev. Jos. Odgers officiated, delivering an able and feeling discourse from the 14th chapter of Revelations, 1st and 2d verses.
