According to the 1850 and 1860 Hamilton County census records Jonathan Springer was born in Georgia. Jonathan served in the military in Georgia in 1814 and again in 1818 (Seminole Indian War) so he was living there at that time. I recently ordered and received copies of War of 1812 pension applications filed by Jonathan Springer and his wife Nancy P. Springer. Although both pensions were denied there was some very valuable information in those applications. In a deposition dated 3 July 1871 Jonathan states he is 78 years old which would indicate his date of birth is ca 1792/93. In her pension application dated 8 August 1881 Nancy P. Springer states that she is the widow of Jonathan Springer and that she married him 30 June 1853 "in what is now known as Tyners' Station in the County of Hamilton in the state of Tennessee" She also states that Jonathan died 28 June 1877 near Tyner in Hamilton County, Tennessee.

According to information found in articles in two books Early Hamilton Settlers and Hamilton County Pioneers, Jonathan is supposdely buried in the Carper cemetery. From those two books these statements: "The Carpers were longtime neighbors with the Springers at Silverdale". Then later this statement: Foster Carper decreed on his death bed that his body "be decently interred in the apple Orchard, on my own premises where my mansion house stands" and then this statement "After the county acquired the old Carper farm and began converting it for its use, plans were made to move the bodies of Foster Carper and other family members. Among those buried there was Jonathan Springer, who had helped to make the coffin for the mother of Foster Carper." From this I am assuming that Jonathan Springer was first buried on the Carper farm and later his grave and those of the Carper family and others buried there were moved to the Carper cemetery at it's present location.

Jonathan Springer married twice. First circa 1813 in Georgia to Martha (maiden name unknown). Martha died sometime after 1850 and before 30 June 1853 when Jonathan married his second wife Nancy P Cook.

Jonathan and Martha Springer were the parents of at least four children. Due to the vast differences in ages of the known children it is most likely that there are other children who have not been identified who either died young or are simply unknown.
