She was born on November 3, 1919, in Tolna, Hungary, a daughter of Joseph and Anna Hornyak of Bretz. She celebrated her second birthday on a ship coming to the United States.
She is survived by her daughter, Judith Kay Helms Shackelford of Arthurdale; two sons, John Alden Helms and Terry Michael Helms, both of Newburg; two sisters, Rosie Lee Blosser of Reedsville and Helen Stuck of Masontown; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Alden Helms; three brothers, Mike Hornyak, Joe Hornyak, and Andy Hornyak; and three sisters, Mary Sbardella, Anna Provenson, and Irene Hornyak.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, April 4. Burial will be in the Gordon Cemetery with Rev. Vincent Segotta officiating.
