James A. Pontow, 72, of Momence, died on Monday, Feb. 4, at Iroquois Memorial Hospital in Watseka.
He was born on May 29, 1935 in Momence, the son of Ernst and Ida Brownfield Pontow.
He had been married to Catherine Giasson.
Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law; Mitch Pontow of Watseka, Mike and Kelly Pontow of Momence and Lisa Pontow of Watseka; special niece Jodie Funk of Martinton; five granddaughters and one great granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Pontow was a veteran of the U.S. Army having been stationed in Korea.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Momence.
He retired from Valspar Corporation after 39 years.
He enjoyed going to coffee shops.
Visitation will be held this morning, Wednesday, Feb. 6 at the Cotter Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb 7 at 10 a.m. at the Cotter Funeral Home with Rev. Herbert Thompson officiating.
Burial with military rites by the Momence Honor Guard will be in the Momence Cemetery.
