June 10th '62, JAMES P. ALLEN , youngest son of Matthew and Elizabeth Allen, aged about 22 years.

James united with the M. E. Church at the Union School House, under the ministry of the Revs. Jas. Hollingshed, and H. McGarret in the autumn of 1859, and retained his membership and Christian integrity until death.

He was a young man of more than ordinary promise, and beloved by all who knew him. - During his brief connection with the army, he attended faithfully to his duties to his country, and practiced the highest principles of Christianity until stricken by fever, and then he came home to die. In his lucid moments he was much engaged in prayer, and to Christian friends who conversed with him, he gave them the assurance that his trust was in the Redeemer. At times his sufferings were excruciating, yet he bore them without a murmur. Though his friends feel their loss deeply, and mourn sincerely, yet they are consoled by the thought that he sleeps in Jesus, to await the resurrection of the just.

The Genius of Liberty. Uniontown, Pa. June 26, 1862.
