Mrs. Clara Marie Behne, 64, of 422 May avenue, a life resident of this community, died at 9:30 p.m. Monday at St. Francis hospital after an 18-month illness.

She was born Sept. 16, 1885, in Des Moines county, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John snd Mary (Schneider) Saftig. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic church.

"The marriage certificate states date of marriage to John Henry Behne, Jan. 20, 1910. They were married by Rev. Thomas F. Galligan at St. Paul's Church, Burlington, Iowa. The witnesses on marriage license were her brother and sister, Theodore J. Saftig and Anna C. Saftig."

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Frances Gorman (Beryl) and Mrs. Marie Meyer (Charles); 2 sons, Paul (Elvera Whemhoner) and Theodore J (Ted) Behne (Louise P Thye); three sisters, Mrs. Anna Hancock, Mrs. Josephine Lutenegger, and Mrs. Laura Rudy; and a brother, Fred Saftig, all of Burlington. Ten grandchildren survive. Her husband, parents, 3 sisters and 2 brothers are dead.

Services will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. in St. Patrick's church preceded by short services at Giles funeral home. Burial will be in Sacred Heart cemetery. Rosary will be recited at the Giles funeral home Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
