Pioneer Resident Called to Rest
Mrs. Sarah Ann Wahl, daughter of Sarah and Jacob Shew, was born on a farm in Carpenter township, Jasper Co., April 6, 1857. She quitely slipped away from this life at 4:30 o'clock on Monday afternoon, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.C. Hallihan. She was eighty years, eight months and seven days old. Her death was due to a stroke which occurred on Nov. 13, since which time she was been in a very critical condition.
She was united in marriage to John Abram Wahl, on Feb 23, 1878, in Remingtton. Her married life was begun in a little log house north of Remington, and a little later moved into town where she has since lived. To this union were born six children all of whom survive her, except one son who died in infancy.
Her husband passes away Jan. 23, 1923. Mrs. Wahl was a pioneer of Carpenter Township, and of Jasper County having lived here more than eighty years of her life, never having moved elsewhere. She hade memories of the early days of our town and county, having lived in Remington when it was known as Carpenter Station.
She united with the Christian church at an early age, and was a devout member and a consistant Christian.
Mrs. Wahl made many friends and being espeially gifted in caring for the sick, she was willing to give of her time and strength to anyone in trouble or need.
She loved her family with a sacrifical love, and her life was full and rich in good deeds.
She leaves to mourn her loss five chidlren: Mrs. Cecil Cain, Shelbyvile, Ind., Mr. Tom Wahl, World War veteran, address not known; Mrs. W.C. Hallihan, Remington; Mr. George Wahl, Indianapolis; Mrs. Ethel Viellieber, Indianapolis. She also leaves seven grandchildren, and three brothers, Mr. Charlie Shew, Elkhard, In.; Mr. Tom Shew, Loomis, South Dakota; Mr. George Shew, Columbia City, Ind.; and two sisters, Mrs. M.O. Stokes and Mrs. Hattie Richcreek, both of Remington.
She also leaves many other relatives who with her loved ones, sincerely mourn her departure.
