From the "Mortuary Notice" in The Times Picayune (New Orleans, Louisiana), Volume, LXX, Issue, Pg. 12. The "Notice" was dated February 1, 1906. (Special thanks to Len Harrell, Kempner, TX, Findagrave #46495893, for finding and sharing this info):
"Mobile, Alabama, January 31 -- Felix McGill, one of the most highly esteemed citizens of Mobile, died at Providence Infirmary this afternoon after an illness of three months period he was 74 years old , a native of Ireland, came to this country with his parents when he was quite young. His father was James McGill, who in antebellum days conducted one of the largest retail shoe stores in this section, to which his sons, Arthur, who died about 11 years ago , in Felix, seceded and conducted with signal success , amassing a fortune. Felix McGill retired from active business life seven years ago . In 1895 he built McGill Institute , in (sic) Government Street, and endowed it as a free school for boys of every denomination . He was identified with many of Mobile's largest business enterprises , until a few weeks ago being Vice President of the Factors and Traders' Insurance Company and President of the First National Bank. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul Society and other organizations. He was noted for his unostentatious charity and benevolence . He is survived by his two sisters, Misses Mary A and Sarah McGill ."
