March 16, 1922, Mr. Downs was united in marriage to Mrs. Dora Henton Smith of Evanston. Besides his wife and children, Mr. Downs is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Sarah McDonald of Westervelt, Mrs. John Beckett of assumption; two half-brothers, George W. Downs and Soloman Downs of Clarksburg; three half-sisters, Mrs. Minnie Sarver, Mrs. Julia Storm and Mrs. Etta Crook of Findlay; fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. One brother, E. H. Downs, died in Shelbyville about four years ago.
Mr. Downs was a farmer until 22 years ago when he and his son William Downs entered the flour and feed business in this city. Mr. Downs retired seven years ago. He united with the First Christian Church under the leadership of Rev. O. W. Steward and he was a deacon of the church for a number of years. He was a heavy contributor to the building of the new church. Mr. Downs also served as alderman in Shelbyville for a number of years. Funeral services will be held from the Christian Church at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Rev. G. M. Anderson will officiate. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
