Professor Emeritus of Biology at the University of Colorado at Boulder; he was on the faculty from 1933 to 1966, including being Chair of the Department of Biology from 1939 to 1958. Visting Professor at Chulalongkorn University (Siam) funded by the Rockefeller Foundation. MA; PhD, Princeton University, 1931-Thesis: The Significance of Hydrogen Ion Concentration in the Biology of Duglena Gracilis Klebs. Dr. Alexander was a member of various societies, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Ecological Society of America, and American Orthonologists Union. Publications included: The Birds of Boulder County, Colorado (1937); Outline of General Zoology (1942, 1949, and 1951); General Biology (1956, 1962, updated by Douglas G. Alexander, 1970); Laboratory Directions for General Biology (1959, co-author); General Zoology (1964); and, approximately 30 articles in professional and academic journals. The Gordon Alexander Collection, 1916-1970, which contains information about and by him and specimens collected in Thailand, Cambodia, and Colorado, is housed in the Norlin Library Archives, University of Colorado at Boulder.Father of Anne Bingham (1930-2012). Edward Gordon Alexander and wife Marion died in the crash of a Delta Air Lines DC-9-the flight originating in Burlington, Vermont-while the crew was attempting an instrument landing in a dense fog at Logan International Airport, Boston, Massachusetts. Surviving in 1973 were four children and four grandchildren.
