Andrew Jackson Bowlin, also known as: A.J. Bowlin and Jack Bowlin.

According to the 1900 Federal Census for Atchison County, Kansas, Enumeration District 17, he was born in Missouri, and both of his parents were also born in Missouri. He is listed as being born in August 1869, being age 30, and a Telegraph Operator - family lore suggests that he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad. About Fall of 1905, he, his wife Martha and their two children moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where they opened and operated a store - Bowlin's Cash Store. This was about two years prior to the Statehood of Oklahoma (November 1907), and they were likely there to obtain land and be involved in the expansion of this territory. Within two years, his wife Martha passed away in 1907, according to her tombstone. Their children are listed as: Roy L. Bowlin, age 7, born
October 1893 in Kansas; and Mable Bowlin, age 4, born June 1896 in Kansas. That 1900 Census also shows that he and his wife had been married for 9 years, being circa 1891.

Marrying at about age 21, Andrew Jackson Bowlin and his wife had about 16 years together until she died at about age 36, in 1907. It's not currently known if there were other children from this union, between 1900 and 1907. Their known two children were about ages 11 and 14 when
his wife, Martha passed in 1907.

When their son, Roy Lindsay Bowlin (1893-1959) graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, and also married in April 1917(in New York), Andrew Jackson (A.J.) Bowlin attended the wedding. Afterwards, the newlyweds spent a month with him, according to the
newspaper report: "The couple left later for the West, accompanied by A.J. Bowlin, the bridegroom's father, who came East for his son's graduation [from West Point] and marriage. They will spend the Lieutenant's one month leave at his home in Tulsa, Okla., when the 1917 class will report to their regiments."

This son, Roy Lindsay Bowlin (1893-1959) later became a Colonel in the U.S. Army and was in charge of various Ordnance Plants for the military during WWII. His initials "RLB" [Inspection Stamp] are now stamped on
many early Remington weapons of that WWII Era.
