: After a lengthy illness, Jack Allison passed away on December 13, 2008, three days after his 85th birthday. James (Jack) B. Allison, Jr was born in Manor, Texas on December 10, 1923 to Margaret Wilson Allison and James B. Allison, Sr. He graduated from Austin High School where he played football under Coach Stan Lambert. He went on to play freshman football at the University of Texas, but his education was interrupted by World War II. He joined the Army Air Corps as a pilot stationed in England. He returned to UT after the war, completed his bachelor's degree and married his high school sweetheart Mary Lou Scott. They moved to Yoakum, Texas where he coached until a job became available in Austin, and he began his 40 year career in the Austin Independent School District, first at Allan Junior High and then moving to Travis High School when it opened in1954. He coached track and football, taught biology, and after completing his master's degree, became assistant principal and later principal. He retired from Travis in 1984. Jack was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Jerry Allison. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Mary Lou Allison, his daughter and son-in-law Scottie and Jimmy Ellerbrock and his daughter Mary K. Allison, his sister-in-law Sandra Allison-Holt, his nephews Art and Larry Allison and Jake Rogers, his nieces Andrea Alexander and Paula Mohlberg, and numerous great nieces and nephews. Jack's family would like thank Dr. Michael Romain, Encompass Home Health, especially Beth, Nicole, Cindi, Linda, and Francisco, Gail Yarbrough of Practical Care, and Heart-to-Heart Hospice for helping him spend his last years at home. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 16 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Weed Corley Fish Funeral Home on North Lamar, and funeral services will be on Wednesday , December 17, at 10:00 a.m., followed by graveside services at Austin Memorial Park, with Military Honors. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Lung Association, the ASPCA, Heart-to-Heart Hospice, or the charity of your choice.
