Erwin Bauer, Ree Heights Blacksmith, Dies Tuesday Following Heart Attack

Erwin Bauer, well-known blacksmith in Ree Heights, died Tuesday night at Memorial Hospital Following a heart attack suffered Friday evening.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock, Saturady afternoon at the local Congregational church, with Norman Kirch officiating. Burial will be in the Ree Heights cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Marion, and three children, Karen, Mrs. Philip Meyer, Jack and Dale.

Erwin Bauer Funeral Services Held Saturday At Ree Heights Church

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 20, at 2:00 p.m., at the Ree Heights Congregational Church for J. Erwin Bauer, 50, with the Rev. Norman Kirsch in charge. Burial was at the Morningside Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Orville Hill, Thomas Grogan, Charles Van Rosendale, Ernest Suhn, Jr., Francis Healey, and Clare Cahoon. Honorary pallbearers were Roy Hammill, Wayne McGee, Charles Beranek, Loyd Phinney, Hugh Gardner, and LaVerne Aymar.

John Erwin Bauer was born at Miller, February 11, 1915, to Anne Marie and Winfield S. Bauer. He was a lifelong resident of Hand county. He died Tuesday evening, March 16, in the Hand County Memorial Hospital at Miller following a heart attack.

He was married to Marion Pearson, Nov. 25, 1940, at Pipestone, Minn. They made their home in Miller until 1943 when they moved to Ree Heights where he operated the Bauer's Blacksmith and Welding Shop.

Bauer was an active member of the Ree Heights Congregational Church, serving as church usher, and Sunday School teacher. Always active in the community he had served as a member of the Town Board, as chief of the Volunteer Fire Department, and many years as Boy Scout master.

He is survived by his widow Marion; one daughter, Karen, Mrs. John P. Meyers, Lincoln, Nebr.; two sons, Jack and Dale, at home; one brother, Ernest, LaMesa, Calif.; three sisters, Evelyn, Mrs. Carl Gardner, LaMesa, Calif.,; Evangeline, Mrs. Tony Myrseth, National City, Calif., Elizabeth, Mrs. Arnold Borresen, Aptos, Calif., and Katherine, Mrs. Lee Berger, San Diego; and one grandson, Michael John Meyer.
