Athel Pearce Dies Of Chronic Illness
Athel P. Pearce, 54, of Lusk and Cheyenne, died Thursday following complications of a chronic ailment. Funeral services were held Monday at 2:00 p.m. from Peet Chapel with Rev. Leslie Deinstadt of Cheyenne officiating. Burial was made in the Lusk Cemetery.
A mixed quartet composed of Mrs. H. J. Templeton, Mrs. A. F. DeCastro, Harry Lyon and Rex Yocum sang "Beautiful Isle" and "God Will Take Care of You." Mrs. J.P. Watson was organist.
Pallbearers were Frank Maret, Clem Mosier, Jim Rodgers, Marvin Skillings, Ed Greene and Melvin Lambert.
Athel Phil Pearce was born December 25, 1902 at Iroquois, South Dakota the son of Phil and Sarah Pearce. In 1913 he moved to Lusk with his parents.
In 1929 he married Miss Ruth Houchin. They were the parents of one son. Mr. Pearce was employed in the oil fields at Lance Creek for ten years. For the past five years he was employed as a mechanic at Ft. Warren Air Base at Cheyenne until ill health forced his resignation. Throughout the years they have maintained their home in Lusk.
Survivors include his wife, a son, First Lt. Donnie Pearce of Ft. Bragg, N. Car.; four sisters: Mrs. Ethel Shelton, Los Angeles; Mrs. Roy Pennington, Lusk; Mrs. Harlan Zerbe, Van Tassell; Mrs. Fred Jones, Culver City, Calif.; and one brother, Ray Pearce, Glenrock.
His parents and two brothers previously died.
Out of town relatives and friends here for the service were Mr. and Mrs. A. Houchin, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Houchin, and Mrs. Pauline Deines, Ogallala, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Gale Powell and Mr. and Mrs. Elwood Baker, Cheyenne and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Maret, Casper.
