Moved to Midway GA in 1776 and was minister of the Midway Congregational Church
In 1778, the British General Augustine Prevost burned the town. Moses escaped to Savannah GA and was taken prisoner when the British seized it in December 1778. As chaplain to the Georgia brigade, and a vocal sympathizer for the American cause, he was sent to a prison ship in Charleston Harbor.
He drowned while attempting to escape.
His body was found on a nearby island but the British captain refused boards for a coffin. His fellow prisoners buried him at sea.

Moses married Elizabeth Odingsell. She married Elisha Lee after Moses' death and is buried in the Midway Cemetery.
"This stone marks the spot where by the side of her reknowned brother-in-law, General James Screven, are deposited the remains of Elizabeth Lee, formerly the widow of Reverend Moses Allen, second pastor of Midway Church. She departed this life in full assurance of blessed immortality, December 11, 1843, the 85th year of her age."
