Born in Pittston, PA on March 15, 1914, she was the daughter of John H. and Martha Ball Mayer. She was the owner and operator of the Dulcey Dress Shop, Lancaster, PA for 20 years until her retirement in 1962. She was a member of the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Landisville, PA.
Dorothy was predeceased by her first husband, Jay T. Dombach, and her second husband, Joseph Torchia who was a professor at the State University in Millerville, PA where the Torchia Scholarship has been endowed. She was also predeceased by her brother, John W. Mayer, and her sister, Mildred Burket.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Barbara Richardson and her husband, Gerald of Stormville, NY; her stepson, Andrew Torchia; her grandsons, Bryan D. Richardson of Concord, GA, Wayne G. Richardson of Cornwall, NY and Gordon A. Richardson of Fort Leavenworth, KS; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2007 at 11:00am at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 85 Brandt Blvd., Landisville, PA with Rev. LaDonna Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the Landisville Mennonite Cemetery on the Old Harrisburg Pike. Arrangements are under the direction of the McHoul Funeral Home Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.
