Carolyn Jayne Gibson was the daughter of Franklin Potter Penfield and Jessamine McFarland. She attended Rice University before marriage where her love for literature blossomed.

She married Dr. Norman Tanner Gibson on April 9, 1930 at the home of her aunt and uncle in Houston.

After moving to Robstown, she quickly established herself in as a community leader and was so active in community affairs that on several occasions she was asked to run for mayor, (an offer she refused).

She was an active member of St. Andrew Episcopal Church and was quite ecumenical by giving her services to many different churches. She is remembered fondly for the bible classes she taught in the Methodist Church and at her home.

Carolyn was also a book reviewer and very much in demand. She frequently gave programs for local organizations.

She is well remembered during WWII period when the "Round Robin" was published for local servicemen. The "Round Robbin" began as a Corpus Christi Publication with a Robstown Supplement until Carolyn Gibson became its editor. For the duration she was the symbol of the home front to the servicemen.

Among her special community interests were the Alpha Literary Club, the Girls Scouts, the bridge group and all the local service clubs.

She was a one woman good will ambassador always bringing cakes to newcomers and others with special needs along with being a dedicated fundraiser for many worthy causes.

She was an avid reader and a student of history, the arts and all things literary.

The couple had four children:
Anne Gibson (1931-1931)
Carolyn Jayne Gibson (1933- )
Gail Gibson (1935-1994)
Charles Norman Gibson (1948- )
