Ed was born at the Haefner family home on Jay Street in what was then part of the town of Gates. This area of Gates was annexed by the city of Rochester in 1919.
Ed and Mary lived in Conesus, New York, for many years in a home that Ed built on Conesus Lake.

"Haefner, Edward Justin – Passed away June 25, 2004, in his 99th year. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary R. Haefner. He is survived by his children, Eileen M. Wurzer, John A. (Barbara) Haefner & Bernard E. (Carol) Haefner; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Anna Dasch, Estelle (Frank W.) Rodman, Agnes (Harry) Bailey & Rita (Herb) Schneider; many nieces and nephews. Ed was a member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society for over 50 years and an active member of the former St. Joseph's Church in Livonia. No prior calling hours. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery."
