Harry Charles Prutsman, 69, passed away peacefully at Glens Falls Hospital on June 1st, 2012, after fighting the good fight against brain cancer. His loving family surrounded him throughout his journey. Harry was born on October 10, 1942 in Hollywood, CA. He was the son of the late Velma Matzner and Joseph Prutsman. After graduating from Bishop Amat High School in 1961, Harry enlisted in the US Army where he served his country with distinction in Vietnam, conducting two combat tours. After his honorable discharge in 1969, he decided to head east to visit his good friend Bill Thomson. This is where he met the love of his life, Patricia (Thomson). They married in 1970, spending a magical 42 years together. Throughout his life, Harry dedicated himself to the service of others. Harry's professional life was dedicated to the service of veterans. He was employed as a Disabled Veteran Outreach Person (DVOP) through the NYS Department of Labor. His dedication to helping veterans was recognized in 1995 when he was awarded the DVOP of the Year Award for meritorious service. He was also instrumental in the opening of the Warren County Vet House, which serves as a temporary shelter for veterans. He was a founding member of the "Stand Down" which provided veterans with free medical, financial and legal services. He was also past president of The Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 79, and instrumental in the creation of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial at SUNY Adirondack. Harry's personal passion, besides spending time with his beloved family, was his dogs. His upbeat spirit was an inspiration to the dog agility community. Harry loved teaching beginner agility, helping handlers and their dogs become true partners. His dedication to teaching earned him a spot in the Glens Falls Kennel Club Hall of Fame in 2009. He and his dog Baxter earned many accolades in agility, including competing and winning events at four national competitions. Harry and Patricia, along with their dogs, volunteered at many elementary schools working with children who had reading and behavioral challenges. He also loved taking his dogs into nursing homes as a part of Therapy Dog International. Harry was an avid golfer who also enjoyed camping, gardening and spending time with his family and friends. His grandchildren were a bright spot in his life and a great source of joy. Harry was an inspiration to everyone he met, and all who were lucky enough to have known him will truly miss him. In addition to his beloved wife of 42 years, Patricia, Harry leaves behind his son Jim Prutsman and his wife Cathy and their children Trenton, Eliza Jane, Frances, Nickolas and Gabriel of Wrentham, MA; his daughter Melanie Trudo of Essex Junction, VT and her sons Jeffrey and Joshua; son Mike Prutsman and his wife Katilyn and their children Violet, Kolton and Camden of South Glens Falls; brother Joe Prutsman of Fullerton, CA; Patricia Cook of Ontario, CA; brothers John and Frank Matzner of CA; and his dogs Madie Lou, Baxter and Chance. Several nieces and nephews also survive him. In addition to his parents, his sister, Loretta Prutsman, predeceased him. Friends are invited to call Sunday, June 10th from 4-8 pm at Singleton Sullivan Potter Funeral Home, 407 Bay Road in Queensbury. A celebration of Harry's life will be held at 10 am on Monday, June 11th at the Church of the Messiah in Glens Falls. The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Sponzo and Jean VanAuken, the staff of Tower 2 Second Floor and the C.R.
