Beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend, Gilbert (Gil) Charles Jay, 80, passed away Tuesday, August 10 at Shelton Rehabilitation Center. Gil was born July 20, 1930, in Chehalis, Washington to first generation Romanian immigrants, Jake and Mary (Sturza) Jay. He was the second child of four children. Raised in Chehalis, he attended Chehalis schools and graduated from Chehalis High School in 1947. He attended Centralia Junior College while driving truck for Chehalis Brick and Tile Company. In 1951, he interrupted his quest for higher education to proudly serve the U.S. Army. Serving during the Korean War, he was discharged July 24, 1953, after achieving the rank of corporal.
He returned to civilian life and his education, graduating from the University of Washington with a Bachelor degree in Business Administration/Production in 1956. Upon graduation, he was employed by The Boeing Company. He loyally served Boeing for 38+ years travelling across the globe to find the best sites to build some of Boeing's most recognizable achievements in aircraft and aerospace engineering. He ended his illustrious career with Boeing on January 1, 1994.
Gil returned to Chehalis upon retirement and spent his retirement years working in his yard and completing small projects around his home. He enjoyed family, especially time with his daughters and grandchildren. He will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and his love of life and family. His memory will be celebrated by his daughters Sue (Kerry) Reed, Deann (Peter) Edgers and Vicki (Dave) Amundsen; his loving grandchildren Sara (Jon) Joynt; Gilbert, David, and Cressa Amundsen; Jacob, Michaela, and Christopher Edgers; his siblings Dotty McCrary and Ed Jay; nieces and nephews Mark (Theresa) McCrary, Nina (Roy) Douglas, and Megan (Dave) Wisersky, Terry Jay, Larry Jay and Kelly (Jeff) Vanesse; great nieces and nephews Jake, Jason, Tom, Makayla and Katlyn.
