Alton McCullough Sr.

Alton Hall McCullough Sr., 80, of Kingstree, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2001 in a Charleston Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, in Union Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Williamsburg Funeral Home.

Born in Lane, he was a son of John Arthur McCullough and Elizabeth Eason McCullough.

Mr. McCullough was a graduate of Kingstree High School and was a Naval Flight Instructor for five years during World War II. He retired from Koppers Company, Inc., and was a member of Williamsburg Presbyterian Church. Mr. McCullough was Mayor of Lane for three decades and a former member of Lane Presbyterian Church for more than 40 years where he served as both deacon and elder.

He was a long-standing director of Lane Industrial Development Corp., and was a longtime supporter of the University of South Carolina athletic program. He was life member of Inglesby Lodge 267 AFM in Greeleyville, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Omar Shrine Temple in Charleston. He was an avid gardener and outdoorsman.

Surviving are his wife, Blanche Gamble McCullough of Kingstree; son, Alton H. McCullough of Mt. Pleasant; sister, Marguerite McCullough Appleby of the Presbyterian Home in Florence; grandchildren, Alton H. McCullough III and Helen Wilson McCullough of Mt. Pleasant.
