Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, 2012, at the McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until the time of service on Sunday. Private burial services with military honors will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to WIMSA (Women in Military Service to America).
Doris was born February 21, 1925, in Shelby County, Missouri, the daughter of James Melvin and Bertha (Wilson) Snell. She was united in marriage to Neal Thomas Reed. He preceded her in death.
Doris served in the United States Navy as a registered nurse. She later went on to work for St. Luke's Hospital, Davenport, for 20 years.
She was a charter member of the WIMSA Memorial. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, bingo, baking and crossword puzzles.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Katherine (Larry Klemme) Reed, LeClaire, and Ellen (Mark) Willman, Blue Grass; her sons, Daniel (Debby) Reed, Eldridge, and Michael (Deanna) Reed, Eldridge; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Neal, she was preceded in death by her parents.
