Born January 17, 1934, in Glenwood, WV, she was the daughter of the late Harmon W Adkins and Goldie (Collins) Adkins.
Novella was retired from the Greenbrier County School system where she worked as a custodian. She was a former member of Quinwood Baptist Church and a member of the WVSSPA.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Perry "Jim" Johnson, Sr; a daughter, Kelly McClung; two sisters, Frances Rose and Patsy Blair; and two brothers, Billy Joe Adkins and Danny Adkins; a grandson, Richard Hume, Jr.; and a great-granddaughter, Kathryn Nicole Trout.
Survivors include three daughters, Shirley Critchley of Rupert, Debbie Walton of Quinwood, and Carolyn Simms of Rainelle; a son, James P. Johnson, Jr., of Rainelle; five adopted children, John, Becky, Terry, Brian and Nola, all of Maine; three brothers, Shirley Adkins of Ansted, Virgil Adkins of Oak Hill, and Jeff Adkins of Ansted; eleven grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at the Chapel of Rest Mausoleum in Victor with Rev. James Bryson officiating. Entombment will follow immediately thereafter.
Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, December 20, 2010, at the Wallace & Wallace Chapel in Rainelle.
