PLEASANT LAKE - Robert L. Allen, 82, passed away at his home Wednesday, June 6, 2012, surrounded by his family. He was born in Salem Township on May 21, 1930, to the late F. Wayne and Edna B. (Graves) Allen.
He was a lifetime Salem Township resident, a member of Salem Center Presbyterian Church and a church trustee for many years. He was on the Salem Center Fire Department for 25 years and was a past chief. He was a charter member of the DeKalb Flying Model Club and an honorary member of Steuben Air Craft Klub. He was a retired farmer and graduate of Salem Center High School.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Archie, Herman and William; and a sister, Viola Schiffli. He married Donna Lou Courtright on Sept. 9, 1950, in Salem Center Presbyterian Church. Surviving are his wife, Donna Lou Allen; two sons and daughters-in-law, Perry and Kathy Sue Allen of Pleasant Lake and Richard and Diana Allen of Pleasant Lake; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia and Terry German of Angola and Cathy and Thomas Hamilton of Angola; a sister, Patricia Little of Tuscon, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Salem Center Presbyterian Church with Pastor Bill Hambright officiating. Visitation will be at Johnson Funeral Home, Hudson, Friday from 4-8 p.m. and at the church one hour prior to service. Burial will be in Flint Cemetery. Memorials are to the church or Salem Center Fire Department. Pallbearers are Travis German, Christopher Hamilton, Shaun Hamilton, Adam Miller, Issac Allen and Justin Allen.
