Mr. James Browning "Sonny" Williams, 81, passed away February 23, 2012 at his home in Mt. Pleasant, Maryland. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Rachel Green Williams.

James was born on May 13, 1930 in Etchison, and was the son of the late Willam L. and Mary B. Williams.

James was a graduate of Damascus High School where he played basketball and was secretary of the FFA. He married Rachel on September 29, 1951.

He served in the US Army at the rank of Sergeant, was a veteran of the Korean War and received the Korean Service Medal, two Bronze Stars and the Combat Infantry Badge.

James retired from the Washington Gas Light Company in 1992 as Credit Manager after 43 years of service.

He was active in many organizations: the National Association of Credit Management (Chairman of the Board, Director), The American Legion Post 282, Union Bridge VFW 8802 (Adjutant), the Monacacy Valley National Wildlife Turkey Federation (Secretary), and the Mayberry Game Protective Association (Board of Directors). James was an avid fisherman and hunter and instructed more than 1,000 students in hunter safety.

James (and his wife Rachel) were very generous and hosted many gath- erings both at their home and at their property in West Virginia for extendedfamily and friends. He will be greatly missed and remembered as a loving family man and great friend, always ready to share a good laugh and a wise word.

James is survived by his brothers, Robert Williams and wife Nonnie of Woodsboro, Maurice Williams of Kemptown, and Frank Williams and wife Judy of Woodsboro, his brother-in-law, George Green and wife Jill of Damascus, and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 4- 8 pm Thursday, March 1 at Molesworth-Williams, P.A., Funeral Home, 26401 Ridge Road, Damascus, MD 20872. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, March 2, 2012 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society ( cancer.org) or Frederick County Hospice
