Mary L. Schilperoort passed away at the age of 91 to join her family in Gods heaven on Sunday, June 3, 2012 in Modesto, CA. She will be dearly missed by many.

Mary was born July 20, 1920 in Des Moines, Iowa, the youngest child of George and Annie Carroll. Mary lost her mother at the age of seven and was raised by her father and siblings. Following High School she had a few odd jobs but eventually made the decision to move to the state of Washington to work for the war effort at Hanford nuclear reactor site. She remained in the Sunnyside area finding a variety of work. She became good friends with some of the Schilperoort boys and their parents, Teunnis and Anna.

She met Clarence Schilperoort upon his return from being a Japanese POW. They married in June of 1946 and enjoyed 64 years together. Clarence remained in the Navy and the two traveled to many different areas due to his assignments.

They started a family and reared two children (Thomas and Nancy) and continued to move from place to place. After Clarence left the Navy they made their home in San Jose, CA. Eventually they enjoyed nearly 30 years and their retirement in Mesa, AZ. Throughout her life, Mary enjoyed sewing, craft work, cooking, dancing, entertaining and just having an all around fun time. She and Clarence continued their travels as they got older after the children were grown. They made trips to Europe, Australia, back to Java/Burma revisiting Clarences' POW days, Alaska, Hawaii and many areas of the United States. She was a devout Catholic and continued to be involved in church functions until her stroke in Modesto, CA in 2009 rendered her disabled and wheel chair bound. At that time she and Clarence were forced to make their ‘home' in an assisted living facility in Modesto, CA and were never able to return to their true home in Arizona. Mary enjoyed a long life filled with adventures. All will miss her wonderful sense of humor and that twinkle in her eye... Mary was preceded in death by her parents, George and Annie (Aller) Carroll; husband Clarence Schilperoort; and three brothers George, Vincent and Marvin Carroll.

She is survived by son Thomas (Katherine) Schilperoort of Modesto, CA; daughter Nancy (Darrell) Greenwald of Elk Grove, CA; four grandchildren, Shane(Shelbi) Schilperoort, Michael (Michele) Schilperoort, Whitney and Benjamin Greenwald; and her sister Rosella Beener of Iowa. She also leaves behind four great grandchildren and a multitude of relatives and friends.

Viewing and visitation and service was held at Smith Funeral Home in Sunnyside, Washington.

Donations in Mary's memory may be sent to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 920 S 6th St., Sunnyside, WA 98944 or to USS Houston CA-30 Survivors Association, c/o Pam Foster, 370 Lilac Lane, Lincoln, CA 95648.
