SHERIDAN PIONEER SUCCUMBS AT 91; SERVICES HELD

SHERIDAN, June 20 – Funeral services for Dr. Eugene Milton Graves, son of one of Sheridan's pioneer couples, were held here Wednesday, June 12, in the Methodist church with Rev. Harvey DeVries officiating at two p.m.

Dr. Graves, son of Thomas N. and Mirandy Bewley Graves, was born Jan. 18, 1855, in a log cabin two miles southeast of Sheridan. He was the second of 11 children.

He attended Willamette university and California State Normal school at San Jose, and was then a letter carrier in Portland and Lincoln, Neb.

He also graduated from a four year dental course at the university of Michigan. He practiced in Portland and later in Sheridan, retiring after a few years.

On Jan. 28, when he became ill he went to live with his sister, Mrs. Christina Bogue, but was confined to his bed until his death.

Surviving are his brother, Wilbur T. Graves of Vernonia and two sisters: Mrs. Nellie Chapman of Sparta, Mich.; and Mrs. Bogue of Sheridan. He was 91 years of age.

At the funeral service, which was followed by cremation, Dr. G. Herbert Smith of Willamette university gave a special tribute to Dr. Graves.
