Julianna B. Githens married John Arthur "Art" Devers in 1854 in Gentry County, Missouri. Art was a private in the 1st Missouri Calvary, and at some point during the war, Julianna and her two young children relocated to Clay County, MO, throughout the duration of the war. Art was captured during the seige on Vicksburg in 1863 and sent to a POW Camp, Camp Morton in Indianapolis. He escaped, returned to Missouri and became a Confederate guerrilla under George Todd, one of William Clarke Quantrill's captains. On March 30, 1865, Art was killed by Union Militia in Northern Clay County after a chase on He was buried in a common grave with his younger brother Alexander, Jr. who was also killed in the skirmish. Julianna gave birth to their third child, Arthur Quantrill Devers the following day. After the war, Julianna and her children first moved to Kansas, then to Oklahoma. She never remarried.
