Mattie Juanita Belcher (Neet) died Saturday, June 1, 2002 in Jacksonville, Florida. Neet lived in Jacksonville with her family, Shirley B. McLawhorn, and her husband, Dr. James E. McLawhorn, and their children J. Marsh, and Richard, for 26 years. Neet was born August 4, 1914 in Cove Creek, Virginia. She was the fourth child of eight children born to William and Nannie Belcher. She worked in Newport News, Virginia for the war-effort. She later moved to Williamsburg, Virginia to work for the college of William and Mary from which she retired in 1976. She was preceded in death by her parents, and six siblings. She is survived by her brother; William T. Belcher, Poquson, Virginia, her sister; Nellie Belcher, Newport News, Virginia, her three nieces; Shirley McLawhorn, Carolyn Nettles, Brenda Taylor, her nephew; Tommy Belcher, her " sister" and close friend Mavis Z. McLawhorn, her " children" J. Marsh, and Richard McLawhorn and his wife Carrie, and her name sake granddaughter; Mattie Ellen McLawhorn. Graveside services will be held 10AM Thursday June 6, 2002 at JACKSONVILLE MEMORY GARDENS CEMETERY with Father Cass Daly officiating. Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6PM-7PM at JACKSONVILLE MEMORY GARDENS FUNERAL HOME.
