Graduated B.A., LL. B., and M.A. from Transylvania University in Lexington. Served as a sergeant in Captain Cassius M. Clay's company during the Mexican War. Served as a major of the Kentucky regiment sent to Utah by the federal government during the Mormon rebellion (1857-1858). Member of the Kentucky legislature 1855-1859 and superintendent of public instruction in Kentucky 1859-1863. Practiced law in Covington and was a poet and scholar of note.

Gravesite Details

Originally buried at Linden Grove Cemetery in Covington, he was reinterred at his present location on Oct. 13, 1922.
