Susie Mae Butler, 83, of Bloomfield, Conn., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 29, 2009, with the arms of her loving family surrounding her. Born on February 24, 1926, in Statesboro, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Marie (Watkins) Cooper and Roosevelt Cooper. She had lived in Georgia until 2001, moving to Hartford to be closer to her family. Prior to her retirement, she was the head baker at Robinson's Bakery for many years. She was a kind and generous soul who leaves a legacy of unconditional love and service that will be remembered and honored by all who knew and loved her.

Susie leaves to mourn her devoted husband and best friend of 62 years, JC Butler. She will forever live in the hearts of her devoted daughter, Gloria Cooper McCoy of Hartford; and her four grandchildren, Pamela Sizemore (Sherman), Cynthia Dukes, Michael McCoy and Rhonda Winborn (Corey); seven great-grandchildren, Terry Mainer, Devin and Shaquana Dukes, Rachel and Joshua McCoy, Connell Chambers and Tyron Casey. She is also survived by two brothers and one sister, Willie James Smith, Harry Smith and Alberta Frazier; a host of nieces and nephews as well as an extended network of family and friends. She was predeceased by one brother and one sister.

Her family will receive relatives and friends at the First Cathedral, 1151 Blue Hills Avenue, Bloomfield, on Wednesday, May 6, from 11 a.m.-noon followed by a Homegoing service at noon. Interment will be at a later date in Georgia.
