J.C. Butler, 82, of Bloomfield, Conn., passed away peacefully on Monday, March 1, 2010, with the arms of his loving family surrounding him. Born on April 21, 1927, in Pine Bluff, Ark., he was the son of the late Jeanette (Dowd) Butler and Booker T. Butler. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Susie Butler.

He worked in the family's pulp wood lumber company for many years. He went on to be employed by the City of Statesboro, where he worked for many years prior to his retirement. He lived in Georgia until 2001, moving to Hartford to be closer to his family. He was a kind and generous soul who leaves a legacy of unconditional love and service that will be remembered and honored by all who knew and loved him.

He leaves to mourn his devoted daughter, Gloria McCoy of Hartford; his four grandchildren, Pamela Sizemore (Sherman), Cynthia Dukes, Michael McCoy and Rhonda Winborn (Corey); seven great-grandchildren, Terry Mainer, Devin and Shaquana Dukes, Rachel and Joshua McCoy, Connell Chambers and Tyron Casey. He is survived by one brother, Alvin Butler; and three sisters, Essie Lee Minsey, Lucy Butler and Geneva (husband, Walter) McArthur. He was predeceased by two sisters and one brother, a host of nieces and nephews, as well as an extended network of family and friends.
