H.S. Cutting
Prominent Rancher of McCone Co. Dies

Harold Scott Cutting of Weldon, large rancher and eminent citizen of McCone county, met a tragic death in Glendive Monday morning. With his wife he drove here to attend to various business matters. He left his car at Kreis' garage for some repairs while he went to a local bank and his wife went shopping.

About eleven his wife went to the garage where she found a short note in the car saying that she would find him in the cemetery. She hurried up there where they have a family lot but his body had already been found by the sexton who summoned Dr Danskin and coroner Oscar Westrum. He had been shot in the head and a small automatic was close by.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon at Koch and Huebl's chapel with Rev. Arnett of Circle in charge. Glendive Lodge No 31, A.F. & A.M. will have charge of the service at the grave, the deceased having been a member of Glendive Lodge for many years.

The deceased was born in Newport, Vermont, March 18, 1880. In 1900 he came to Shelby, Montana to work on a ranch for an uncle. Later he bought sheep and operated extensively in old Dawson county in the neighborhood of his present ranch.

In December 1914 he was united in marriage to Nettie E. Sime who was teaching school in McCone county. Two daughters were born to them. Dorothy of Weldon and Frances who is a music teacher in the schools of Fallon, Neveda.

In 1923 the family moved to For Collins, Colorado for better educational opportunities for their daughters but Mr Cutting retained his interests in McCone county to which he later returned.

He was a man of noble character, broad education and wide popularity with his neighbors and acquaintances. He was fond of reading and was a deep thinker on current subjects and problems.
Besides his wife and two daughters he leaves two brothers to mourn his untimely death.
