INFORMATION FROM RELATIVE Alan Larsen ([email protected]) says Mary was the first wife of Alan's grandfather (his grandmother was the second wife with a daughter being his mother). Came to US 1902. Married Edward Asplund Aug 19 1907. Died 1914 of tb. Mary Asplund (Maria Abrahamsdotter Herrgard) was born in Kvevlax, Finland. At least 2 siblings emigrated to the US. Edward Herrgard, Crystal Falls and Anna Herrgard Clements, Iron Mountain.

She & future husband were immigrants from Finland. Came to America to escape adversities of homeland. She died of tuberculosis 1914 age 28. Left husband with 2 small children. Her tb was evidently from poor living conditions. Arvid age 6 when she died & sister Ethel age 2. Edward met wife Mary on boardwalk in Iron Mountain. She spoke Swedish. They married he age 22 she age 21 on Aug 19 1907 at courthouse in Iron Mountain. She was daughter of Abraham Herrgard and Maria Andersdotter Svarvar. Wedding at Saron Lutheran Church at Fourth & Vulcan Streets in Iron Mountain. With Rev. Carl Almen and attendants Oscar & Mathilda Shoberg. Arvid born Mar 14 1908 in Iron Mountain but started school in Stambaugh in huge red brick building at east end of Main Street [Washington?]. Moved to Davidson Location with about 10 homes. Attended James School which opened in Nov 1913. Mother had 3 children before passing away: Arvid Mar 14 1908, Albert 1910-1913 from spinal meningitis, Ethel May 10 1912. Had been bedridden prior to death. She died while he was at school as friends named Sundquist were helping family.
