Thomas Jackson Aaron, 77, of Burkburnett passed away Saturday, June 10th, 2012 in Dallas, TX.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday June 13, 2012 at First Baptist Church of Burkburnett, with Dr. Tim Russell and Pastor Bill Liggett, officiating. A private burial service will be held in the Burkburnett Cemetery under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home in Burkburnett.
Jack was born July 25, 1934 in Wellington, Texas to Doyle and Velma Cass Aaron. He graduated from Quail High School in 1951. He married Jeaunell Lacy on January 3rd, 1953. Jack and Jeaunell moved to Oklahoma City, where he attended Hills Business College. The couple moved back home in 1956, prior to his graduation, where Jack became employed at City State Bank of Wellington as the Vice President and Cashier. This was the beginning of a remarkable career in community banking that would last more than 55 years.
In 1964, Jack graduated from the Southwestern Graduate School of Banking at SMU in Dallas. In the same year, he was elected as President of The Burkburnett Bank and at 31 years of age, was named the youngest bank president in Texas. He served as Chairman of the Board until 2000, when the bank was sold to First American Bank.
Jack was the Chairman of the North Texas Region for First American until 2005, when he began a new venture. Following the opening of the Burkburnett branch of Fidelity Bank, he became a member of the Board of Directors for the bank.
He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Burkburnett for many years, spending time as Chairman of the Deacons. A leader in the community, he served countless hours for many organizations. He was President of the Burkburnett Chamber of Commerce, founding the Senior Citizens and Industrial Development Committees. He was named Citizen of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce. Jack was also President of the Burkburnett Lions Club.
Jack had a hand in bringing many businesses and organizations to Burkburnett, including the United Way and the Burkburnett Legacy Foundation. He was Chairman of the Board for the Burkburnett Library, the Downtown Renovation project in Burkburnett, served time as President of the Burkburnett Little League and was a Board Member for the North Texas Girl Scouts of America. He was also a Board Member of the BCI in Wichita Falls, the Board for the Wichita Falls Country Club, as well as many other organizations over the years.
In addition to banking and serving his community, Jack was a family man who enjoyed farming, ranching, and playing golf. After having a heart attack in 1991, he received a heart transplant—giving him 21 extra years with his family, the opportunity to watch his grandchildren grow up, and meet his two great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his father, Doyle Aaron; his mother, Velma Aaron-Emmert; and his step-father,
Clyde Emmert.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jeaunell of Burkburnett; son, Randy Aaron and wife, Anne, of Wichita Falls; daughter, Kris Garrison and husband, Doug of Vernon; daughter, Kim Heptner and husband, Curtis of Burkburnett; sister, Joy Emmert; sister, Nancy Harris; sister, Patsy Meyer; grandchildren, Denise Edson and husband, Calvin, Aaron Garrison and wife, Alyson, Ryan Heptner and wife, Libba, Lacy Heptner, Drew Aaron, Michael Aaron, and Jonathan Aaron; and great-grandchildren, Ella Kate Edson and Nixon Paisley Heptner.
Visitation will be held at the family residence from 6:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, June 12.
