Jane Kneisley was born July 21, 1844 in Ohio and came with her parents to Miller County, Mo. in 1868. She was educated in high school in Ohio and at the age of 25 she began teaching school and continued to teach in different districts in Miller and Moniteau counties for 30 years. Where she taught it was said of her that she was a kind and efficient teacher.

At the age of 13 years she was converted and united with the Presbyterian church and at the age of 53 she was baptised into the fellowship of the Greenridge Baptist church by Elder Allee of California, Mo.

Sister Kneisley remained single and retained her maiden name and transacted her own business until February 16, 1913, when she was married to Elder W.H. Payne, one of the old pioneer missionary Baptist preachers of Miller County. They lived happily together until April 17, 1917 when she passed away to that reward in Heaven.

Sister Payne lived a devoted Christian all this long life. She and brother Payne united with the Central Baptist church about two years ago and were bright and shining lights. She loved her church and talked much of her future home in Heaven. She has vacated that home which her presence made happy and Brother Payne is left lonely and heartbroken to wonder why. But we humbly bow in submission to God's will.

Sister Payne's funeral was preached b Elder J.S. Conner at Greenridge church to a large crowd of weeping relatives and friends, after which she was laid to rest beside her mother in the Greenridge cemetery.
