ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Anna F. Apple, 91, of Rock Island, Ill., formerly of Warsaw, died at 4:20 a.m. Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk.

She was born on Oct. 15, 1908, in Warsaw, the daughter of Albert and Lizzie Reuter Frank. She married Lawrence Apple on Sept. 6, 1936, in Warsaw. He preceded her in death on June 12, 1998. Survivors include: a daughter, Joyce (Duane) Taylor of Warsaw; three sons, Frank M. (Patricia) Apple of Marion, Ronald L. (Jean) Apple of Louisville, Ky., and Dennis G. (Linda) Apple of Mission Viejo, Calif.; three sisters, Cora Seals and Helene Gustafson, both of Keokuk and "Penny" Henrietta Merrow of Deltona, Fla.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was further preceded in death by: a son, Lowell G. Apple; a brother, George Frank; a daughter-in-law, Jeanne Apple; and a grandson, Shawn Apple. She graduated with the Warsaw High School Class of 1926. She received her bachelor of science degree in education from Western Illinois University. Mrs. Apple taught in rural schools near Warsaw and in the Warsaw Grade School. She was a P.T.A. President of Lowell Schools in Sioux City and served on the P.T.A. board of Edison School where she received a lifetime membership in P.T.A.

Mrs. Apple was active as a scout leader, serving six years as a Cub Scout leader and 12 years as a Girl Scout leader. Throughout her life she enjoyed arts, crafts and sewing stuffed toys for the Argus Santa. Mrs. Apple was a member of the Church of Peace in Rock Island, and a member of the Ida Kruger Circle and Women's Guild within the church. She was also a member of Home Extension.

Funeral services are at 3 p.m. Friday at Knox-Larson Funeral Home in Rock Island, with the Rev. Michael Swartz officiating. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Concordia Lutheran Cemetery in Warsaw, with the Rev. Hoyt L. Whitebread officiating. Visitation is from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Church of Peace in Rock Island.
