Bill was a member and President of the Nickerson Board of Education, a member of the Hutchinson Community College Board, and was a Life Member and District Officer of Kiwanis International. In 1962, he was voted the Outstanding Young Farmer of Reno County by the Hutchinson Jaycee's and the Outstanding Young Farmer of Kansas by the Kansas Farmers Union Jobbing Association.
After his Dairy farming career, Bill finished his education at Hutchinson Community College (AA), Wichita State University (BS) and Fort Hays State University (MS). He was a School Psychologist in various Reno County Schools while working for the Reno County Educational Cooperative for 16 years.
Bill is survived by his wife; children: a son and daughter in law of Bella Vista, AK; a son and daughter in law of Valley Center, KS; a son and daughter in law of Hutchinson, KS; a son of Destin, FL; and a daughter of South Carolina; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and Sister, and brother in law of North Carolina.
Cremation has taken place and according to Bill's wishes, a private graveside service will be held at a later date. Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, June 13 at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice Care of Kansas.
