A native of Randolph County, IN, he was born June 19, 1920, the son of Lee and Leddie (Jones) Hardesty and had resided in Eaton since 1962.
Affectionately known as "Gib" or "Gibby", he worked for Marsh Supermarkets as a truck driver for 25 1/2 years, retiring in 1982. Gib had also worked for Marhoefer Packing and Ag Best, Gaston.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, Eaton, and the Teamsters Local 135, Muncie.
His family includes three children, Joyce (David) Norrick, Muncie, Dennis (Pat) Hardesty, Bradenton, FL, and Rev. Richard (Jeanne) Hardesty, Alexandria; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and several step-great-grandchildren. A special friend, Ilean True, Muncie, and his buddy, Fred "Bud" Maynard, Alexandria, also survive.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Ina Mae (Baker) Hardesty on April 22, 1999; and a brother, Merritt L. Hardesty, on March 16, 1998.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 28 in the Pitman-Richman Funeral Home, 200 S. Hartford St., Eaton, with Rev. Richard Hardesty, Gilbert's son, officiating. Friends may call at Pitman-Richman Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. Monday, July 27 and an hour prior to the service Tuesday.
