Obituary----Dr. G. A. Dawes
Dr. G. [ustavus] A. [dolphus] Dawes was born Nov. 25, 1841, in Westmoreland County, Penn., and died at his home in Athelstan, Iowa, on Aug. 19th, 1926, aged 84 years, 8 months and 24 days.

At the age of 8 years he moved with his parents to the state of Wisconsin.  Here he grew to manhood and at the outbreak of the Civil War he enlisted in Company B, 5th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, in which he served for the duration of the war.

On January 10, 1866, he was married to Miss Mary Vidal at Uniontown, Kansas.  To this union were born three children, Johnnie, who died in infancy, Mamie, who died at the age of 17 years, and Joseph Vidal, who now lives at Los Angeles, Calif.  After the death of his first wife he was married to Miss Sarah Quinn in St. Joseph, Mo., Nov. 25, 1882.  One child, now Mrs. S. E. Dowden, of Galt, Mo., was born to this marriage.  This wife died Sept. 23, 1908, and on January 29, 1914, he was married to Mrs. Maria K. [emery] Gartside, who survives him.  Four grandchildren also survive, as well as two brothers and one sister.
