Marion Maerz had been a resident of Wharton for the past 72 years and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Wharton. She was a graduate of Wharton High School and was the salutatorian in 1939. Mrs. Maerz played the violin for the Wharton High School Orchestra and also played drums for the high school band. She married Frank Lloyd "Jiggs" Maerz on Sept. 20, 1943, in Wharton and he preceded her in death on June 20, 2003.
She was also preceded in death by a step-brother, Phil Kleas Jr. She traveled with her husband for many years while he was stationed with the U.S. Marine Air Corps. Mrs. Maerz enjoyed playing bridge with numerous bridge groups and was a life master bridge player.
The couple had no children.
