THOMAS JAMES MOSS, Jr.

Married February 17, 1930 in

Portage la Prairie, Manitoba

Reverend A.R. Saunders

The couple had four children together. They lived in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. On October 30, 1941, her husband Thomas James Moss, Jr. enlisted in the Canadian Army. He was sent to basic training at Valcartier Military Base. Thomas died of Spinal Meningitis in 1942 while serving in the Canadian Army, Canadian Forestry Services; and he is buried at Camp Valcartier, Quebec. Just a few weeks after her husband passed away, her youngest daughter Shirley May Moss (age 2 1/2) fell down a flight of steps and died. A month later, she delivered her fifth child.

While living in Portage la Prairie, the family had a house fire which was caused by some motor oil spilling on the stovetop and catching fire. The family lived in 3 different houses in Portage la Prairie. After all of this, Katie moved the family from Portage la Prairie, Manitoba to live in Fernie, British Columbia. She lived in Clareshome for a time, running a restaurant. She eventually moved back to Fernie, where she lived the remainder of her life.

Sadly, Katie died from pancreatic cancer in 1979 after only being diagnosed six (6) months earlier. She is buried at St. Margaret's Cemetery in Fernie, BC, near her daughter Sadie and her husband Henry Joinson; her son Roy Moss; and granddaughter Kathy Peters and great-grandson Brad Peters.
