Clipping from paper, Lafollette Press Tuesday December 15, 1936, furnished by Edie Doepel.
John had promised his dad before his dad died he would stay on the farm and take care of every thing and when TVA took the land, for the building of Norris Dam, John bought another home for he and his wife Mary McCarty Berry and before he moved he hung himself. He said he felt like he let his dad down. He was so tall he had to fold his feet and legs under him so he would not reach the floor. He used bailing wire to hang him self. He was a tall heavy man and his weight almost decapitaded him. This was told to me by Bonnie Welch Brantley, John's grandson's wife and Elder Hugh Edgar Brummitt, a relative of Him.
