Marilyn Ann Cooper Avery, 82, of San Diego, Calif., passed away in San Diego on December 24, 2011, from complications of Alzheimer's disease. The daughter of the late Amos and Ruby Cooper, Marilyn was born on Feb. 20, 1929, in Red Oak, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Avery, and her husband, Jim Avery. She is survived by seven children, her daughters and their spouses, Chris "Nina" Avery of Alpine, Calif., Susan Avery of San Diego, Kathy and Steve Stevens of San Diego, Charlotte and Chip Maxwell of Chapel Hill, NC; her sons and their spouses, Lazer and Susan Avery of Kansas City, Mo., Kevin and Sally Avery of Hartland, Vt., and Steve and Michaela Avery of Antioch, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Collin Veasley, Nick Veasley, Samantha Avery, Corey Maxwell, Melissa Maxwell, Kate Maxwell and Jessica Stevens; and four great grandchildren, Benjamin, Jacob, Victoria and Vince. Marilyn worked as a social worker most of her life, beginning with the Juvenile Court at Kansas City. Marilyn was an avid reader, lover of the arts and traveler. She was a loving, creative and courageous mother who is greatly missed by her children. A family graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 15, at Calvary Cemetery, 6901 Troost Ave., Kansas City, (816) 523-0480. A memorial service will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, at The Residence Inn, 12215 S. Strangline Rd, Olathe, KS 66062 (913) 829-6700.
