Son of Milson and Rebecca Bennett Woodmansee. Enlisted 15 AUG 1861 at Wheeling, Ohio County, VA (now in West VA), Company D 1st West Virginia Cavalry. He was wounded during General Ropes' retreat near the Rappahannack River in Aug 1862. Also wounded near Sulphur Springs, VA & was hospitalized in Alexandra until Dec. 1863. He was made 1st Lieutenant 9th Regiment Ohio Cavalry. His health deteriorated and he contracted consumption, which caused his discharge.
