Bridgewater Bulletin
Entering the D.M. Hospital on Friday, March 23, 1979, his passing away on Monday morning, March 26, came as a shock to his family. Born on April 8, 1884, at Branch LaHave, he was a son of the late Elias and Eliza (Crouse) Young. He lived all his life on his century farm, except for a period of time when a young man in Maine, U.S.A. Mr. Young was 94 years, 11 months and 18 days old. He was the last member of his immediate family. He is survived by one daughter, Beulah (Mrs. Edgar Bolivar, Sr.) and one son, Henry, both of Branch LaHave; 14 grandchildren; 33 great- grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Elva (Meisner) Young; one son, Clarence; two brothers, William, Branch LaHave; and Henry, U.S.A.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Mr. Young has as his hobby a pair of prized oxen, of which he tended up to entering the hospital and a horse which he drove on the country highways visiting his friends until two years past when his eyesight became impaired. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Branch LaHave, where his funeral service was held on Wednesday at 2 p.m., conducted by Charles Sweeny. Officiated by Pastor Gustafson who delivered a very inspirational service to a large number of relatives and friends. Mrs.Donald Dorey was organist and hymns, "Amazing Grace," "The Lord's My Shepherd," and "Jesus Saviour, Pilot Me" were rendered by the choir. Interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were six of his grandsons, Arthur, Carroll and Rex Young, Elwood, Ernest, and Eldridge Bolivar. After the last rites by the pastor at the graveside, a handful of loam from his own homestead was cast upon the vault by grandson, Rex.
With thanks to Rosemary Rafuse.
