Harriet "Hattie" Brooks was the daughter of Lewis C. and Margaret (Reynolds) Brooks. She was born in Martin County, Indiana and lived there all of her life.
On April 23, 1907 she married (Joseph) Isom Ackerman in Martin County, Indiana. They had two daughters and one son.
Hattie Ackerman was a member of Woman's Club, the White River Chapter of D.A.R., and a charter member of Tri Kappa, as well as being active in other social and civic affairs of Loogootee.
Her children, seven grandchildren and a brother survived her.
She died Sunday morning, 10 July 1960 at the Daviess County hospital, after being in failing health for a year. Her funeral mass was held in St. John's Catholic Church, on Tuesday morning, 12 July 1960. The Rosary was prayed Monday evening.
