Jack L. Berkshire, age 85, of Rt.1 Bridgeport, IL passed away Tuesday June 5, 2012 in the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. Jack was born Feb. 5, 1927 in Lawrenceville, IL.

His parents were Roy L. and Ethel L Cook Berkshire. Jack was married to Norma Potts and she preceded him in death June 11, 2005. Jack was a member of Liberty Methodist Church. He was a member of the Edward Dobbins Masonic Lodge #164 in Lawrenceville, where he was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was also a member of the VFW Post 2244 in Lawrenceville. Jack was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Navy . Jack served on the US Intrepid and was a member of Gen. Halsey's 3rd Fleet Occupation Force. He was present in Tokyo Harbor when the peace treaty was signed. Jack was very proud of his military service and his country.

Jack retired from the Texaco Refinery in Lawrenceville. He is survived by: three daughters: Brenda Nuttall and her husband Doug of Lawrenceville, Kim Hovermale and her husband Tom of St. Francisville and Jacqueline Berkshire of Lake Forest, IL: two sisters: Helen Newman and Mildred Barnthouse: six grand-children: Jared (Erica) Hovermale, Jordan Hovermale, Allyson Hovermale, Aaron Nuttall, Jenny Brady, and Angela Carrie: 4 Great-grandchildren: and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Ethel Berkshire, his wife Norma, his sons Jack L. Berkshire Jr. and Gerald L. Berkshire. One daughter Linda Berkshire Carrie also preceded him in death.

A Masonic service was accorded Jack L. Berkshire at the funeral home on Friday evening. The funeral service for Jack L. Berkshire was held at the Christian Church in St. Francisville, IL. Burial followed in the Bridgeport City Cemetery. A military service was conducted by the Lawrenceville VFW members at the cemetery.
