George lost his leg in a train accident, in Pierce City, Mo, at an early age. As a result, he received employment with the FRISCO Railroad. He married three times. First to Helen Adcox in 1917, then Maude Ketchum in 1934 and finally to Myrtle Stein in 1953. He was a long time member of the I.O.O.F. [International Organization of Oddfellows] George was named after his father's brother who died in the service of his country during the Civil War.
