James Ryser, 25, Effingham, died yesterday at the Winchester hospital where he had been a patient since last Wednesday. He underwent an appendix operation Thursday, and another operation early yesterday.

He was born Dec. 8, 1930, near Haddam, Kas., a son of Frank and Martha Ryser. They moved to Atchison county in 1945, and he attended the Atchison County Community High School where he was graduated in 1947.

Aug. 5, 1948, he and Delia May Iles, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Merle Iles of Effingham were married at the Hiawatha Presbyterian church. The Rev. E Raymond Heglin performed the ceremony. They began house keeping in Effingham and he engaged in farming with his father southwest of Effingham. Later he worked with construction companies. At the time of his death he was an employee of Sutter Brothers, Effingham.

He was a member of the Effingham Methodist church. His favorite sport was hunting, and just a few days ago he returned from the national coon event in Illinois.
